Bourse gains 1.2% for the week

The Colombo bourse recorded a positive performance during the week, with both the ASPI and S&P SL20 indices posting gains.


The ASPI gained 253 points, or 1.2%, during the week to close at 21,623, while the S&P SL20 gained 92 points, or 1.5%, to close at 6,080.


Average daily turnover saw a modest improvement compared to the previous week, recording Rs. 2.5 Bn.


Improved market activity was largely supported by stable energy prices and positive earnings growth among companies that released their results for the quarter ended June 2026.


Foreign selling continued during the week, with the market recording a net foreign outflow of Rs. 2.9 Bn.


High-net-worth and institutional investor participation continued to be observed, while retail activity was visible in selected shares.


Banks were among the most actively traded shares during the week, with several off-board transactions recorded. Construction, NBFI and consumer sector shares also attracted increased investor interest.
