The Ministry of Defence has issued a special announcement regarding the renewal of firearm licences and the registration of private security agencies.

The notice states that individuals and institutions holding firearm licences for 2026 can only renew them between September 1 and December 31, 2025.

Information and application forms can be obtained from the official website of the Ministry of Defence, www.defence.lk.

Similarly, the registration and renewal of private security agencies for the years 2026 and 2027 will also take place during the same period, from the September 1 to December 31 2025.

The ministry warns that late fees or legal action may be imposed for renewals made after the deadline.

The Ministry of Defence also emphasised that, according to section 22 of the Firearms Ordinance, possessing a firearm without a valid licence is a punishable offence.
