The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) has arrested a suspected close associate of the alleged underworld figure known as "Backhoe Saman".

Allegedly, 6.1 kilogrammes of Kerala cannabis valued at approximately Rs. 1.5 million was found in his possession.

Police stated that the 41-year old suspect was arrested based on information revealed during the interrogation of Sampath Manamperi, a candidate who contested for the local government election from the Agunakolapelessa area.

Manamperi was interrogated as per an order by the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court.

He is alleged to have been involved in concealing two containers of chemicals suspected of being used to produce the drug 'ice'.
