Sri Lanka has been eliminated from the Asia Cup finals contention after a 5-wicket loss to Pakistan in a disappointing performance in Abu Dhabi.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first, making early inroads into the Sri Lankan batting line-up.
Both opening batters, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, were dismissed cheaply, with Nissanka making just 8 runs and Mendis falling for a duck.
This early setback left the team struggling at 53 for 3 at the end of the power play.
Despite the early losses, Kamindu Mendis showed resilience, top-scoring for the team with a well-played 50 runs, which helped them reach a total of 133 for 8.
The Sri Lankan bowlers, particularly Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga, fought hard, picking up 2 wickets each and making the chase a nervous one for Pakistan.
However, a crucial 58-run partnership between Hussain Talat and Mohammad Nawaz sealed the victory for Pakistan, ending Sri Lanka's hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
