The UAE Search and Rescue team is continuing its humanitarian work in Sri Lanka as part of the emergency response to recent floods and landslides.
Today, the team focused on Zone 2 – Rambuk-ela/Vilanagama in the Akurana Divisional Secretariat area of the Kandy District, which stands as one of the most affected regions.
Here, a landslide struck homes on a mountain peak, leading to the collapse of more than 16 houses that were swept into the valley below.
The UAE team immediately began operations upon arrival, utilizing specialized equipment and K9 units to search the site.
Team members meticulously combed the area despite the challenging terrain and the zone's hazardous nature.
During operations today, the team successfully recovered ten bodies from beneath the rubble and along the valley's path.
Efforts to find missing persons continue, coordinated with the relevant Sri Lankan authorities.
The intervention by the UAE Search and Rescue team demonstrates the UAE's continuous commitment to aiding friendly nations during disasters and crises, providing essential humanitarian relief to save lives and reduce suffering for those impacted.
