WSO2 today announced that its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, will step down from his role as CEO with effect from June, 2026.

The Board of Directors has initiated a search for a permanent CEO and has appointed WSO2’s Chief Revenue Officer Devaka Randeniya as Acting Chief Executive Officer to lead the company during the transition period.

“We are grateful to Sanjiva for his vision and leadership in building WSO2 into a globally recognized technology company,” said Jonas Persson, Chairman of the Board.

“With a strong leadership team, a clear strategy, and growing demand for our platform, WSO2 is well positioned to continue its momentum. The Board is focused on ensuring a smooth transition and identifying the right leader for the company’s next phase.”

“It has been an incredible journey building WSO2 over the past two decades,” said Weerawarana. “I am proud of what we’ve accomplished and confident in the team and strategy driving the company forward. WSO2’s role in enabling the next generation of AI-driven, agent-based digital experiences is only just beginning.”

WSO2 continues to see strong demand for its platform as enterprises seek to securely integrate, manage, and govern increasingly complex digital interactions, including emerging AI agents.

Weerawarana will join WSO2 executives at WSO2Con North America 2026, its upcoming user conference in Austin, Texas next week, where the leadership team will present the company’s latest innovations and future direction.

Founded in 2005, WSO2 has offices in Australia, Brazil, Germany, India, Spain, Sri Lanka, the UAE, the UK, and the US, generating over USD 100M in annual recurring revenue.
