One sluice gate of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir has been opened following the heavy rains experienced in the Central Highlands.
The Disaster Management Unit in Nuwara Eliya stated that the gate has been opened automatically after the heavy showers.
Nuwara Eliya Disaster Management Unit Assistant Director Ranjith Ahalakoon requested the public residing in the low-lying areas on either side of the Kotmale Reservoir as well as the below the reservoir dam to be vigilant regarding the situation.
Meanwhile, the Wimalasurendra Reservoir has also begun to overflow, and one sluice gate has been opened in the Laxapana Reservoir.
