Water levels at major reservoirs further decrease

The water levels of many major reservoirs that receive water for power generation have further decreased.

Reservoir engineers said that the water capacity of many reservoirs in hydropower plants had dropped further by 06:00 a.m. today (25).

The height of the dam at Maussakelle Reservoir is 120 feet and the water level in the reservoir has dropped to 80.9 feet.

Castlereagh Reservoir Dam is 155 feet high, and the water level in the reservoir has dropped to 134 feet.

It is reported that the height of the dam of Laxapana reservoir is 82 feet and its water capacity has dropped to 75.2 feet.

The height of the Wimalasurendra Reservoir Dam is 91 feet and its water capacity has dropped to 86.8 feet.

Engineers at the Laxapana, New Laxapana, Polpitiya and Wimalasurendra Power Plant said that the power generation at the Canyon Hydro Power Station has been suspended for several more months due to maintenance work on the tunnel that carries water to the plant.
