Veteran comedian Bandu Samarasinghe has been appointed as the new Consul in Milan, Italy, according to foreign sources.
It is reported that Bandu Samarasinghe has been appointed to fill the vacancy created by the death of the Consul General of Milan, Neela Wickramasinghe.
This post is being offered by the Arts Forum of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna and they have proposed the name of Bandu Samarasinghe.
However, Bandu Samarasinghe has not issued a definite statement on whether he will officially accept the post in the current situation.
Meanwhile, internal sources say that Bandu has refused to go to Italy alone.
It is also reported that his son Kanchana Samarasinghe has been given an opportunity to go to Italy with him and pursue a career in that country.
However, according to sources, Kanchana Samarasinghe's visa has been denied.
However, Foreign Affairs Minister Prof. GL Peiris has not agreed to give the post to veteran comedian Bandu Samarasinghe.
