Renowned Actor Lionel Wickrama Passes Away at 77

Veteran Sri Lankan actor Lionel Wickrama, renowned for his impactful contributions to the country's film and television industry, has passed away. The veteran actor, aged 77, breathed his last this morning in Kandy after battling illness, as confirmed by a close relative.

Lionel Wickrama made his mark in the world of entertainment with a career spanning several decades. He made his acting debut in Tissa Abeysekara's 'Karumakkarayo' (1980), portraying the memorable character of 'Baby Mahaththaya'. His talent and versatility were further highlighted in the groundbreaking teledrama "Gangulen Egodata," the first of its kind produced in Sri Lanka, with Pathirajayan's directorial expertise.

The iconic role of Arthur Hamu in the teledrama "Ella Langa Walawwa" (1988) marked a milestone in Sri Lankan teledrama history, creating a lasting impact on audiences. His portrayal of the stern ruler "Arti Hamu" in the teledrama "Batti" solidified his status as a revered actor, leaving an indelible legacy in the hearts of viewers.

Throughout his career, Lionel Wickrama continued to captivate audiences with his performances in notable productions, including "Sepalika," "Sagarayak Meda," "Sakvithi Suvaya," and "Soldadu Unnehe," among others.
