A private bus traveling from Badulla to Anuradhapura veered off the Badulla-Mahiyangana main road around 7:20 a.m. today (10) at the Balagolla 17th junction in Batalapitiya, crashing into a nearby house. The bus driver sustained minor injuries, but no one else was harmed.
At the time of the accident, a small child and a married couple were in the house; they were unharmed as they were in a different room. However, the crash caused extensive damage to the house's walls, roof, and a stock of paddy.
The bus, which typically carries school teachers and office workers, had fewer passengers today as it was a Sunday. Initial investigations point to a technical fault as the cause of the accident.
