No notice from Bribery Commission regarding Airbus deal for former President - Gamage

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa received no official notification or summons from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption concerning the Airbus deal, according to his media spokesperson, Attorney-at-Law Manoj Gamage.

He stated that the current President’s premature remarks regarding upcoming court verdicts constitute a contempt of court and an attempt to influence judicial independence.

The spokesperson further alleged that the commission shows a biased interest in the Rajapaksas while failing to investigate serious accusations against the present government, including coal scams, container transactions, and dollar frauds.

He urged the commission to prioritise independent investigations into large-scale corruption instead of political vendettas, noting that public tax money funds the institution.

Gamage said that the Rajapaksas remain undeterred by such political targeting and stand ready to respond legally at any time.
