The government has approved the establishment of a new industrial zone in Dambulla, which will focus on the food production and packaging industries. This project falls under the "Regional Industrial Zone Development Program" of the Ministry of Industries and Enterprise Development, which has already established 33 industrial zones across the country, with 7 more currently under development.
An area of 64 acres, 2 roods, and 10.2 perches has been identified in the Alen Egoda Yaya village within the Dambulla Divisional Secretariat for the new zone. The plan is to develop 24 acres in the first phase, with the remaining land to be developed in the second phase.
To move the project forward, the Cabinet has approved a proposal from the Minister of Industries and Enterprise Development to allocate Rs. 750 million from the 2025 budget for infrastructure development within the Dambulla industrial zone.
