Police said they are preparing to record statements from the relatives and associates of Aruna Vidanagamage, alias "Kajja," over the murder of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.
Police confirmed that the decision to expand the scope of the investigation is based on new information revealed by Kajja's wife.
Thajudeen's body was found inside his car near Park Road, Narahenpita, on 17 May 2012.
Although initially ruled an accident, the case was reopened in 2015 following a complaint from his family to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), who alleged it was a murder.
Recently, the Police said that the car seen pursuing Thajudeen’s vehicle on the night of the murder was driven by the individual known as "Kajja," who was later killed in an incident in Middeniya in February this year.
Police are now expanding the evidence-gathering process to his relatives and associates based on the information provided by his wife.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Security, Ananda Wijepala, stated that the investigation is also utilising information extracted from 31 mobile phones seized from criminals, including Kehelbaddara Padme, who were arrested in Indonesia.
