The Department of Meteorology reports that atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thundershowers this evening (October 5).
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimise risks from associated strong winds and lightning.
Rainfall or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island after 1 PM today.
During the morning hours, rain may also occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Jaffna, and Mannar districts.
The Department of Meteorology further notes that heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Central, and Uva provinces, and the Vavuniya and Mullaittivu districts.
