Police Headquarters has clarified that the incident reported at a house in the Ihala Omattha area of the Elpitiya Police Division yesterday (October 4) was not a shooting.
Current investigations have revealed that the damage was caused by a an improvised explosive device made by placing gunpowder and small stones inside a pipe-like object and detonating it.
Police Headquarters stated that the investigation conducted by the Elpitiya Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) confirmed the damage was not caused by gunfire.
The investigation began following a complaint to the Elpitiya Police that the front window of the house was broken and several items inside were damaged.
Police are continuing their inquiries into the incident.
The fragments recovered from the scene are due to be sent to the Government Analyst for further examination.
