The couple, residents of Athulugama, Thalathuoya, are aged 23 and 20.
The Kandy Police Criminal Division stated that the pair would enter the jewellery shops claiming they needed to purchase gold for their wedding.
They are believed to have been carrying out this type of theft for some time.
The arrest was made following an investigation based on CCTV camera footage.
After being produced before the Kandy Chief Magistrate's Court, the suspect couple was remanded until 9 October.
Police confirmed that they have recovered several of the gold items the couple had stolen and pawned.
However, the value of the recovered items has not yet been assessed.
