Alleged drug trafficker 'Kalubowila Chuti' and brother arrested with drugs

The Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested an alleged drug trafficker known as 'Kalubowila Chuti' and his older brother with a consignment of nearly 3 kilogrammes of heroin and 'ICE'.

Police investigations following their interrogation have revealed significant details about the drug operation.

The STF's Moratuwa Special Operations Unit Three received information that a group involved in large-scale drug trafficking was transporting a narcotics consignment on a motorcycle.

Officers immediately set up a roadblock at Bokundara Junction.

During the operation, they intercepted two men on a motorcycle and, upon searching them, found 2.1 kilogrammes of heroin and 478 grammes of 'ICE' in a travel bag carried by the pillion rider.

The arrested suspects were identified as 'Kalubowila Chuti', a 23-year-old drug trafficker, and his 25-year-old older brother.

The motorcycle they were riding was also taken into police custody.

The suspects informed the police that the narcotics belonged to an individual identified as 'Kalubowila Avishka', who is currently overseas.

They stated that about a week prior, Avishka had contacted them and instructed them to collect a bag containing the narcotics that had been hidden under a tree near the Bellanwila walking track.

The suspects claimed that upon collecting the bag, they found it contained 3 kilograms of heroin and 1 kilogram of 'ICE'.

A week later, Avishka had called them again, instructing them to transport 2 kilogrammes of heroin and 500 grammes of 'Ice' to Piliyandala, promising to inform them of the drop-off location later.

'Kalubowila Chuti' and his brother were apprehended by the STF while they were transporting this consignment to Piliyandala.

Both arrested suspects have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
