Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa stated in Parliament today (25) he can prove with evidence that the requirement for a certificate from the Civil Defense Committee Chairman to obtain a police report is not a lie, but a fact.
Premadasa pointed out that according to Standing Order 91, no Member of Parliament should be accused or have their private affairs mentioned. He claimed his privileges were breached by comments made about him in the House.
The Leader of the Opposition re-emphasized that the mandatory recommendation of the Public Security Committee or the Civil Defense Committee is required to obtain a police certificate.
To substantiate this point, he referred to two letters sent to the Hakmana Police Station, stating these letters were sent by an individual named Yasantha Ariyasena, Chairman of the Public Security Committee in the 280 B Badabadda Grama Seva Division.
Premadasa said all these letters would be included in the Hansard (Parliamentary reports), revealing who spoke the truth.
He also pointed out that even the notice board at the Matara Police Station listed a letter from the Civil Defense Committee among the documents required to obtain a police report. However, the Leader of the Opposition alleged that following the matter being raised in Parliament, only that section was erased this morning.
