The Disaster Management Center stated that all 14 floodgates of the Iranamadu Reservoir in Kilinochchi were opened due to heavy rainfall affecting the Northern Province.
As the reservoir's water level reached the spill level, authorities advised residents in areas affected by the released water, especially around Iyan Koviladi, Murasumottai, Kandawalai, Uruiyan, Panankandy, and Kanakarayan Aru, to immediately move to safe locations.
Authorities are warning that residents in the low-lying areas of the Kandawalai Divisional Secretariat face a risk of flooding due to this situation.
