Cabinet approval was granted to establish two wind power plants, each with a capacity of 50 megawatts (MW), in the Mullikulam area of Mannar.
In line with the government's broader plan to meet 70% of the country's electricity supply from renewable energy sources by 2030, the Cabinet approved yesterday (10) to call for proposals from interested private sector developers to implement the 100 MW Mullikulam Wind Power Park Project (comprising two 50 MW wind power plants) on a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) basis with a 20-year operational period.
Accordingly, proposals were called for the implementation of the project, following an International Competitive Bidding (ICB) process, and seven project proposers submitted their bids.
Based on the recommendation submitted by the Negotiation Committee appointed by the Cabinet after evaluating the proposals, the Cabinet approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Power to award the contracts to the Consortium of Vidullanka PLC & David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Limited and to Wind Force PLC.
