'GovPay' digital payment system launched for Nuwara Eliya and Hatton

The 'GovPay' digital system, which allows motorists to pay traffic fines online, was officially introduced to the Nuwara Eliya and Hatton police divisions on February 2 at the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Digital Economy, the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), and LankaPay.

One of the most significant benefits of this system is that motorists can have their driving licenses released by the police immediately upon making the digital payment.

To facilitate these operations, smartphones were symbolically presented to police officers during the event.

The launch included a training session where officials from ICTA and LankaPay educated police personnel on how to use the new platform effectively.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Nuwara Eliya District, Priyantha Chandrasiri, and DIG of the Traffic Control and Road Safety Division, W. P. J. Senadheera.
