Namal criticises government's stance on military pride

National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa questioned the government's recent conduct during a parliamentary session yesterday (05). He challenged the administration's rationale for excluding military equipment obtained on credit from the National Independence Day parade, mockingly asking why government representatives wear clothes often acquired through external assistance if they are ashamed of borrowed resources.

The military, police, and civil defence forces defeated a form of terrorism that the world deemed invincible, rather than fighting the Tamil people, according to the MP. He claimed the current head of state lacks the courage to proudly acknowledge this victory on Independence Day and asserted that the government fails to recognise the sacrifices made by the security forces.

Concerns were also raised regarding the imprisonment of Buddhist monks following the Trincomalee incident, while a hartal was permitted in Jaffna on Independence Day. The MP noted that while people have a right to express their views, the law appears to be applied selectively based on political or financial advantage.

The President and the current administration are inciting racism despite their claims to the contrary, the MP further alleged. He concluded by stating that the government's strategy of criticising the southern majority in an attempt to win over the diaspora and the northern population will ultimately fail.
