A 29-year-old motorcyclist died last evening (7) following a head-on collision with a van in the Randobe area on the Galle-Colombo main road. According to the police, the van was heading towards Balapitiya when it crashed into the motorcycle arriving from the opposite direction.
Both the rider and the pillion passenger sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Balapitiya Hospital. However, the motorcyclist, a resident of the Aluwala area, died by his injuries shortly after admission. The pillion rider continues to receive medical treatment.
The driver of the van has been arrested by the police in connection with the accident. Further investigations are being conducted to determine if speeding or reckless driving contributed to the fatal crash.
