A group of cricket fans, frustrated by the national team's recent defeats, held a protest in front of the Sri Lanka Cricket headquarters today (01).
The primary demand of the protesters is the immediate resignation of the current cricket governing board. Organized under the leadership of a Buddhist monk, the demonstration included a large number of civil activists and cricket enthusiasts.
Protesters shouted slogans calling for President Shammi Silva and the board of officials to vacate their posts and "go home." They alleged that the board failed to restore the standards of domestic cricket and held the current officials directly responsible for the sport's decline.
Police deployed heavy security around the headquarters due to the protest, though they confirmed that no violent incidents occurred.
