86 child abuse cases reported in Elpitiya police division

Eighty-six cases of child abuse reached police stations within the Elpitiya Police Division during 2025, the Elpitiya Police Women's Bureau reports.

Women Police Sergeant Nishadi Lakmali stated that six schoolgirls became pregnant following these incidents, adding that mobile phone usage contributed to many reported cases. These details emerged during a workshop on child savings and protection organized by the Sri Lanka Korea Friendship Association for children from low-income families at the Elpitiya Ananda Maha Vidyalaya auditorium.

An art exhibition regarding child savings took place for children from low-income families in the Elpitiya Divisional Secretariat, where Director W. Lee presented awards to the winners. Numerous children and parents from low-income backgrounds attended the event, which featured several dance performances by the children. The Sri Lanka Korea Friendship Association organized the proceedings.
