A man who allegedly drugged three women travelling on a bus from Anuradhapura to Colombo and robbed them of cash and gold jewellery worth Rs. 1,706,400 was arrested by Anuradhapura Police.
Police Headquarters stated that a team of officers from the Anuradhapura Police conducted an extensive investigation into the incident, which occurred on the night of April 02, and apprehended the suspect in the Pandulagama area this past Friday (17).
The suspect is a 54-year-old resident of the Saliyawewa area.
According to police, an unknown individual on the bus befriended the three women during their journey and offered them snacks and a drink.
The three women lost consciousness after consuming the food, at which point the suspect took the opportunity to rob their valuable property and flee.
Police Headquarters issued a special notice urging the public to avoid forming unnecessary friendships with strangers while using public transport and to exercise extreme caution and intelligence before accepting food or drinks offered by others.
