A person standing on the road died after a Sri Lanka Transport Board bus belonging to the Nikaweratiya depot collided with a small lorry and a motorcycle on the Hettipola-Panduwasnuwara road.
Hettipola Police state the bus subsequently veered off the road and crashed into a nearby shop.
Investigators confirmed that while no one on the bus sustained serious injuries, other individuals outside the vehicle were hurt in the incident.
Police acted quickly to transport the injured to Hettipola Hospital.
Hospital sources indicate that the condition of those receiving treatment is not critical.
Hettipola Police are conducting further inquiries into the matter.
