Hambantota Bird Park owner acquitted in motorcycle case

The Hambantota Magistrate's Court ordered the release of the owner of the Hambantota Bird Park today (6).

Officers from the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau previously arrested two employees and seized 21 luxury motorcycles, valued at approximately Rs. 250 million, from the premises on 12 July 2025.

Following subsequent investigations, the owner of the park was also taken into custody and remanded.

The suspects were later released on bail while the trial proceeded at the Hambantota Magistrate's Court.

During the magisterial inquiry today, officials from the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau informed the court they would not pursue the complaint further.

Upon considering these submissions, the Magistrate issued the order for acquittal.

The owner of the Bird Park, who served as the primary suspect, along with a storekeeper and another employee, were cleared of all charges.

The allegations included the illegal importation, possession, and assembly of 21 high-capacity motorcycles within the country.
