The Welfare Benefit Board admitted today (7) that a double payment occurred by mistake during the distribution of additional special allowances to Aswasuma beneficiaries for the New Year in April.
In a statement, Chairman Nimal Kotawalagedara mentioned that the board decided to recover the excess funds from the Aswasuma payments of beneficiaries this month.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and the Free Lawyers organisation previously disclosed that such an erroneous payment took place.
