A man who went into forest to collect beehives has died after being attacked by wild elephants, according to the Gomarankadawala Police.
The incident occurred yesterday (24) in the Ottichchankulama area of the Gomarankadawala Police Division, where the victim, a 65-year-old resident of Bakmigama, lost his life.
Police investigations revealed that the victim has entered the forest in the Ottichchankulama area with several other villagers in search of bee honey when they encountered the unexpected tragedy.
They were surrounded by a herd of wild elephants, and the man has been fatally attacked by an elephants at the scene.
The body of the deceased has been placed at the mortuary of the Trincomalee General Hospital for post-mortem examination, while Gomarankadawala Police are conducting further investigations.
