The period from May 27 to June 2 is declared as Vesak week.
A special prohibition comes into effect during this Vesak week.
This is according to an official notice issued under the signature of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Secretary S. Alokabandara.
Accordingly, the notice states that animal slaughterhouses, meat shops, meat sales inside supermarkets, race bookies, casinos, and clubs must remain closed island-wide on May 30, 31, and June 1.
