Investigation launched into musical event video promoting banned organisation

An investigation commenced by the Jaffna Division Crime Investigation Bureau regarding a video circulating on social media showing songs sung promoting the banned LTTE organisation during a musical show held in the Navakkuli area of the Chavakachcheri police division on the 31st.

Police Headquarters stated this while detailing the incident.

A 24-year-old youth residing in the Udayanagar area of Kilinochchi was arrested by the police on the 02nd in connection with this incident, according to Police Headquarters.

Further investigations revealed that this suspect edited two songs sung at the relevant musical concert on one of his social media accounts to promote the LTTE organisation.

Police mentioned that he voiced those songs himself, uploaded them to his social media account, and allowed them to circulate.

The suspect was produced before the Chavakachcheri Magistrate's Court yesterday (03rd) as this act constitutes a punishable offence under Section 3 (g) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act No. 48 of 1978, and the Magistrate ordered the suspect to be remanded until the 17th after considering the facts presented.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Police emphasized that news spreading through certain social media platforms claiming "there is no room for the police for musical concerts and entertainment, including singing songs" based on this incident is completely false and incorrect.

Therefore, Sri Lankan police informed the public through a notice that it is the responsibility and duty of every citizen to act with a proper understanding of the Constitution, which is the basic law in force in the country, as well as other rules and regulations.
