The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Eheliyagoda Police Station, who was arrested by the Ratnapura Divisional Crime Investigation Unit over allegations of forcibly obtaining money from both parties involved in a gem theft case, has been released on bail by the Avissawella Magistrate's Court today (04).
The court ordered the suspect to be released on two surety bails of Rs. 1 million each.
The court also imposed an overseas travel ban on the suspect and instructed him not to influence the complainants as a condition of bail.
The case is scheduled to be recalled on July 03.
According to police, the investigation stems from a complaint related to a gem theft incident reported in August 2025.
During the investigation, it is alleged that the suspect forcibly obtained money belonging to witnesses and suspects connected to the case and failed to carry out proper investigative procedures.
Police stated that the suspect was arrested last night (03) over the allegations.
