Police teams have launched investigations to arrest three individuals who fled after the driver of a cab involved in a fatal incident was taken into custody, following the incident near Meegoda Junction on the Avissawella–Colombo High-Level Road on May 31.
The tragic incident occurred when a cab ran over a group of people standing in a queue at a dansala, resulting in the deaths of six people and serious injuries to seven others.
According to police, two teams have been deployed to trace the suspects, which include the registered owner of the cab and two others who were reportedly travelling in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The individuals being sought are identified as Attanayake Don Wasantha, the registered owner of the cab, residing at No. 243/D, Kudamadawa, Siddamulla, Piliyandala; S. K. Kumara alias Sellamuthu Sellakumar, residing at No. 342/D, Palanwatta, Pannipitiya; and Don Sarath Hettige, residing at No. 337/07, Palanwatta, Pannipitiya.
Police have requested the public to provide any information regarding these individuals to the Officer-in-Charge of the Meegoda Police Station via 071 859 2179, or to the Officer-in-Charge of the Meegoda Traffic Division via 077 949 4188.
Meanwhile, the driver of the cab involved in the incident was arrested and produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court on June 1, after which he was remanded until June 16.
