The Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast stating that showers or thundershowers will occur intermittently today (06) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.
The department further noted that some areas in these provinces and districts may receive fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm.
It also warned that strong winds of 40–50 km/h are likely at times in the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North Central provinces, and the districts of Hambantota and Trincomalee.
Elsewhere, moderately strong winds of 30–40 km/h may also occur intermittently.
The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimise risks from temporary strong winds, lightning, and thundershowers.
