The vessel recently interdicted by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command was last tracked off the southern coast of Sri Lanka, according to ship-tracking data from the MarineTraffic platform.
The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command said yesterday that it carried out an interdiction and boarding operation on the sanctioned stateless oil tanker ‘Davina’ overnight in the Indian Ocean.
Foreign media reports, citing vessel tracking data, stated that the supertanker—capable of carrying up to two million barrels of crude oil—was sanctioned by the United States in October 2024 over alleged involvement in Iranian oil trading.
The vessel is also known as ‘Lenore’, according to reports.
In a post on X, the Indo-Pacific Command said it will continue global maritime enforcement operations to disrupt illicit networks and intercept vessels providing material support to Iran.
U.S. forces have intercepted several commercial and oil tankers in the Indian Ocean in recent months amid rising tensions over Iran’s maritime oil trade and shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz.
