A driver has died on the spot after a three-wheeler collided with an office express train running from Maradana to Hikkaduwa at the railway crossing on Depot Road, Aluthgama, police said.
The accident occurred this evening (10).
According to police, the three-wheeler was travelling from Dharga Town towards Aluthgama, and preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle entered the railway crossing carelessly while the train was approaching, leading to the collision.
At the time of the accident, only the driver was inside the three-wheeler. Police said his identity has not yet been confirmed.
Aluthgama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
