US and international news media have reported that Iran launched drones towards vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday night.
A senior US official told US broadcaster Fox News: “It appears Iran has attempted to strike commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz tonight.”
“US forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones,” the official added, according to the report, which was also published by Reuters.
Earlier, Iran’s military said it had stopped a “violating vessel” attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been declared closed by Tehran.
