Man remanded for hurting toddler with cruelty

Colombo Additional Magistrate Lahiru Silva today (22) ordered to remand an individual arrested by the Pettah Police until June 3, over cruel treatement to his girlfriend's toddler.
The suspect, identified as Lakshitha Thushara Dhananjaya Perera, a resident of Bastian Mawatha in Pettah, faced remand after the Pettah Police arrested and produced him before court.
The Police informed court that the suspect treated the girl with cruelty because she cried frequently.
The suspect was produced before court for assaulting a young girl and treating her with cruelty.
The police informed court that the suspect was arrested based on a complaint and subsequent notification by the Women's Bureau of the Pettah Police.
The Police further informed court that the suspect stays at stall number 21 at the old bus stand on Bastian Mawatha in Colombo, and the mother of the girl is a 23-year-old woman.
According to the mother of the girl, this child suffered an assault on a previous night as well, police stated.
