Five suspects involved in an assault incident that circulated on social media were arrested by the Malabe Police.
The Police Media Division stated the suspects are aged between 16 and 17 and reside in the Kothalawala area of Kaduwela.
A video circulated on social media recently showing a group of people attacking a youth with their hands, feet, and helmets near a rice dansala in Malabe town on Poson Poya Day.
The Police Media Division noted that following a complaint received by the Malabe Police on June 30, 2026, officers immediately commenced investigations and arrested the five suspects.
Initial police investigations revealed that the conflict stemmed from an argument in a queue at the dansala.
The altercation broke out when a person waiting in a queue to obtain food at the dansala in Malabe town objected to two individuals attempting to join the line from outside.
Malabe Police are conducting further investigations to arrest other suspects involved in the incident.
The police mentioned that the arrested suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court today (01).
