Minister: President inherited a bankrupt treasury, not a magic wand

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake did not receive a magic wand when taking office, but rather a bankrupt treasury, according to Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe.

He made these remarks while attending a function in Wijayapura, Anuradhapura.

The minister further stated that the government faces constant criticism despite being in power for nearly two years.

He explained that when President Dissanayake took office, the country lacked the ability to import vehicles, fertiliser, or fuel, and national development had stalled.
