Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe ordered the further remand of Sugeeshwara Bandara, leader of the New Peoples Front and former personal secretary to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, until July 8.
The magistrate announced the decision to issue an order regarding bail on that date.
This ruling followed submissions made by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau regarding allegations of receiving salaries for two positions under the presidential expenditure head.
The Central Crime Investigation Bureau conducted the inquiry following a received complaint.
The bureau informed the court that the suspect served as a personal secretary to the former president during 2022 while simultaneously acting as a project director at the Presidential Secretariat, allegedly drawing salaries for both roles.
The suspect was arrested in the Kollupitiya area in connection with this case.
Furthermore, the bureau reported that information emerged regarding the suspect's alleged misuse of government vehicles and the deployment of government employees for political activities during his tenure in those positions, noting that a separate investigation into these matters commenced.
