Sri Lanka’s first skill development and day care centre dedicated specifically to children with disabilities opened in the Naduvootthu area of the Kinniya Divisional Secretariat division in Trincomalee.
The centre, established as a significant step towards creating a safe environment with equal opportunities for children with disabilities, provides all necessary supportive facilities, including day care services and skill development programmes for nearly 100 children.
Additionally, special transport facilities are arranged for these children with the support of the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
Concurrent with the opening ceremony, official appointment letters were presented to preschool teachers, care officers, and office assistants recruited to work at the centre.
Trincomalee District Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra, Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Dr Upali Pannila, and Deputy Minister Wasantha Piyatissa, along with several officials representing relevant institutions, attended the inauguration event held on the 17th.
