Dry weather has severely affected the Mahawewa area of the Lunugamvehera Divisional Secretariat Division in the Hambantota District. Water levels in several tanks have dropped significantly, with some tanks now almost completely dried up.
A large number of tanks, including Mahawewa, Diganwewa, and Palugaswewa, have turned into dry land, according to farmers.
Fishermen and dairy farmers have faced severe difficulties. Dairy farmers stated that the amount of milk obtained has reduced significantly due to a shortage of food and drinking water for cattle, while they are also unable to provide medical treatment for the cattle. They requested the government to formulate a proper plan, as they lack even pasture land.
