Link between Shiran Basik and terrorist organisations revealed

An alleged major drug trafficker Shiran Basik, who was brought to Sri Lanka from Dubai, has been engaged in transactions with terrorist organisations, Police Media Spokesman Assistant Superintendent of Police F. U. Wootler said.

Attending a press conference yesterday (15), he said that steps are currently being taken to bring 72 other individuals to the country with red notices issued and are currently hiding abroad.

Permission was obtained to detain and question Shiran Basik for 72 hours according to the powers vested in the Superintendent of Police in charge of the Central Crime Investigation Division.

Shiran Basik was brought to this country from Abu Dhabi city on the night of August 14 and was subsequently handed over to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau for further investigations.

Basik (48) is a resident of the Dehiwala area.

Considered one of the five alleged large-scale traffickers supplying drugs to this country, Shiran Basik was arrested by local police while hiding in Dubai on May 26 base on the red notices issued against him by Interpol.

Police also took steps to demolish a hotel located in the Dehiwala area on January 1, 2024, which is believed to be owned by Shiran Basik.
