1,178 prison inmates escape over 6 years

A total of 1,178 inmates have escaped from prisons during the 6 years from 2019 to 2025, a statistical report issued by the Department of Prisons has revealed.

Accordingly, 153 inmates escaped in 2019, 110 inmates in 2020, and 103 inmates in 2021.

It also states that 231 inmates escaped from prisons in the year 2022, 207 inmates in 2023, 188 inmates in 2024, and 186 inmates in 2025.

Out of the inmates who escaped, 474 individuals were re-arrested, while another 704 inmates remain at large.
