Officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested the acting officer-in-charge of the Periya Nilaiwāni police station this afternoon (17) while he accepted a bribe of 20,000 rupees.
The arrested individual is a Police Inspector who previously served as the administrative division head at the Sainthamaruthu police station before reporting for duty as the acting officer-in-charge at the Periya Nilaiwāni police station.
Commission officials conducted the raid around 4:05 PM today inside the office of the Periya Nilaiwāni officer-in-charge at the exact moment of accepting the bribe.
Following the arrest, authorities handed over the suspect police inspector's uniform to sub-service at the Periya Nilaiwāni police station and transported him to the Kalmunai police station for further investigations, according to our correspondent.
