First Kumbal procession in Kandy begins; Indiraja carries sacred casket today

The first Kumbal procession of the Kandy Esala festival has commenced its street parade.

The procession is scheduled to parade along Dalada Veediya, Colombo Street, Yatinuwara Veediya, and Raja Veediya before returning to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

The Indiraja tusker has been accorded the honour of carrying the sacred casket today, accompanied by Miyan Raja and Kotte Raja as the flanking tuskers.
