President Anura Kumara Dissanayake chaired a discussion yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat with the special Cabinet subcommittee and officials' committee established to mitigate the impacts of the El Niño weather pattern.
The meeting reviewed progress on issues arising from ongoing El Niño conditions, along with current measures to ensure the supply of drinking water, domestic water, and agricultural water to the public.
Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture reported that crop damage remained minimal due to early cultivation measures implemented during the previous Yala season.
They also confirmed that they are taking continuous steps to meet public water demands.
The President inquired about strategies to guarantee an uninterrupted drinking water supply from major reservoirs, maintain adequate water for agriculture, and safeguard upcoming cultivation seasons to ensure national food security.
